The deadlift involves lifting a bar from the floor to a standing position: it targets the entire posterior chain.
Feet hip-width apart, bar directly over the middle of your feet. Bend your hips and knees to grip the bar just outside your legs, back flat, shoulders over the bar.
Push through the floor to lift the bar along your legs, extending your hips and knees together until standing. Lower it back down following the same path.
Your back remains flat from start to finish. Learn the movement with a light load before adding weight.
