Did you know?

Whey protein stimulates muscle protein synthesis to a greater extent after exercise than casein or soya, an effect linked to its rapid digestion.

What the studies say

  • This ISSN study emphasises that protein intake, particularly around the time of physical exercise, is crucial for stimulating the synthesis and maintenance of muscle mass. It indicates that supplementation is a practical way of meeting daily protein requirements (often 1.4–2.0 g/kg/day, or even more depending on individual goals) whilst controlling calorie intake. The study highlights the effectiveness of rapidly digested proteins, rich in essential amino acids and leucine, in stimulating muscle growth, with optimal doses of 20–40 g per serving, ideally spread throughout the day.
