Supplementation with collagen peptides combined with resistance training increases lean body mass, but not muscle fibre size, suggesting an adaptation of the connective tissues.
This randomised, placebo-controlled study assessed the impact of daily supplementation with 15 g of collagen peptides in sarcopenic older men, in combination with resistance training. After 12 weeks, the group receiving collagen peptides showed significantly greater improvements in lean body mass, muscle strength and reduction in body fat. The data suggest that collagen peptides, when combined with resistance training, improve body composition and muscle strength in older men with sarcopenia.
